On Saturday September 14h, the ECOPACK Bulgaria team joined the BTV Media Group campaign “Let’s Clean up Bulgaria Together” for the 8th consecutive year.

Together with the municipal administration of Vratsa and the mayor of the city Kalin Kamenov, the environmentalists cleaned the valley of the Leva River in the area around the Vratsata Pass in the municipality of Vratsa.

200 children aged 4 to 8 participated in a children’s eco event within the ECOPACK Bulgaria initiative “Feed Me, I Eat Separately”. The event took place at the same time as the city cleanup, on the square in front of the Vratsa Municipality building. City Mayor Kalin Kamenov and the organization’s Executive Director, Todor Bourgoudjiev greeted the children and their parents, appealing to them to keep the city clean and to collect waste separately. The even program included a performance that explained to the young audience in an accessible manner and language the issue of the responsibility of each inhabitant of the Earth for the future of the planet. Because it is the belief at Ecopack Bulgaria that “children are the best ambassadors of the green idea and often help form good habits among adults.”
The puppet show characters Hartoyad, Plastoyadka, and Stukloyad told the children how they should collect waste in order to keep the planet clean. They learned that the waste that goes to landfills pollutes the environment while the waste collected separately is recycled and then brought to new life. The show also teaches the children what type of waste goes in each color-coded container.
All of the children danced and took part in waste sorting competitions, and in the end they all left with gifts - magnets with the puppet show characters and coloring comic books.
As partner to the “Let’s Clean up Bulgaria Together” campaign, every year ECOPACK Bulgaria provides gloves and trash bags for the volunteers who join the initiative in all 87 municipalities in which it has set up separate waste collection systems. For this edition the organization provided 40,000 bags and 20,000 pairs of gloves.
