Kids in Pazardzhik collected over 4.5 tons of plastic waste in a recycling competition.
The first part of the Recycling Challenge campaign by ECOPACK and Pazardzhik Municipality took place on April 6th, in Pazardzhik. The campaign, which was launched on March 12, is targeted at local teachers and students of all ages. It aims to draw the attention of schoolchildren, parents and teachers to separate waste collection and recycling, the protection of the environment, public health, and saving natural resources, as well as to build enduring recycling habits among the students and their families.
The campaign is conducted in two stages: Stage I – a competition among student classes for the largest amount of plastic packaging waste collected; Stage II – a competition for the most active school, with the highest number of environmental lessons delivered.
On Saturday, hundreds of children, parents, and teachers handed over the plastic waste collected at the three collection points organized by ECOPACK Bulgaria in three different locations in town. Each kid that handed over plastic waste received a special voucher stating the amount dropped off which they in turn gave to their form teacher.
Nearly all of the schools in town joined the competition but those who were the most active were the students from Otets Paisii, Vassil Levski, and Kliment Ohridski schools. No less committed were the older students from the Berthold Brecht language school and the Konstantin Velichkov mathematics high school, who in total handed over 795.8 kg of waste packaging. 580 students took part in the competition and handed over more than 4.5 tons of waste for recycling.
The grand prize goes to the class of students that collects the largest amount of waste. The winners are to be officially announced between April 17-19th at the Municipality building. This is also when the three most active schools in the second stage of the competition will be announced.
