Hartoyad, Plastoyadka and Stukloyad teach the children in Tutrakan to collect waste separately

Tutrakan, 16 May, 2019

Dancing, singing, joyful children’s cheering, and many blue, yellow and green balloons filled the hall of the Nikola Vaptsarov community center in Tutrakan today. Ecopack Bulgaria and Tutrakan Municipality brought together 300 children from the Polet kindergarten and the local schools Hristo Botev and Yordan Yovkov for an educational show that will long be remembered by the young audience. Together with the cute little animal characters Hartoyad, Plastoyadka and Stukloyad, who feed on waste from the three color-coded containers of Ecopack Bulgaria, the children learned why it is important to collect used packaging separately and how to turn this into a daily habit so as to make possible the recycling of waste. All of the kids received as gifts coloring books and magnets with the characters from the puppet show.

The free puppet show “A Tale of Brave Little Empty-Bellied Heroes” in Tutrakan was part of the spring tour of Fairy Tale Theater – Sofia, by initiative of Ecopack Bulgaria and in partnership with the municipalities of Botevgrad, Svoge, Tutrakan, Pleven, Pravets, Panagyurishte, Teteven, Peshtera, and Strelcha. It has enjoyed great popularity across the country because, in a manner and language accessible to children, it deals with the urgent issue of individual responsibility for the protection of the environment.

Young Mariella, for example, was struck by the fact that if we keep disposing of trash in landfills it will take over the Earth. “It is up to us to keep things clean around us,” she said after the show. And Nikola, aged 6, declared he was going to place recycling bags in his home and would explain to everyone in the family where to put what. “We often teach eco lessons in school. But to the children this show is particularly moving and useful. Because they learn while they feel concerned and engaged with the issue,” Ms. Ivanova explained.

The educational puppet show “A Tale of Brave Little Empty-Bellied Heroes” has been touring the country for five consecutive years. Over this period, the actors from the Fairy Tale Theatre have taught over 6,440 children aged 4-8 about recycling.

The next performance of the puppet show “A Tale of Brave Little Empty-Bellied Heroes” is scheduled for May 17th, 2019, 10h30, in Vuzrazhdane Square, or in the event of rain, at the Katya Popova Hall in Pleven.
