The third annual edition of the Greenest Municipality Competition, organized by ECOPACK Bulgaria has now concluded.
Participants included 19 ECOPACK partner municipalities from across the country. The aim of the competition was to award the best eco projects concerned with raising public awareness of the benefits from separate packaging waste collection to the environment, public health, and quality of life. Entries were divided into three categories depending on the size of the population covered: small municipalities, with population up to 25,000; medium-size municipalities with population 25,000-100,000; and large municipalities with population exceeding 100,000.
Participation in the competition involved two stages – filing in an online form and submitting projects for public awareness campaigns and initiatives. The winners were selected by an expert jury which evaluated the applications according to the criteria announced in advance on the competition website. The winner of the BGN 25,000 prize in the Large Municipality category, with population of 100,000 and more, was Mladost district, Sofia Municipality, with its project “The Children of Mladost Collect Waste Separately”.
In the Medium-Size Municipality category, with population 25,000-100,000, the prize went to Kyustendil Municipality and its project “Awareness – Key Factor in Waste Management”. The Greenest Municipality award in the category of small municipalities with population up to 25,000 went to Svilengrad Municipality and the project “Let’s Collect Separately in the Kindergarten and at Home”.
