For the fourth consecutive year ECOPACK Bulgaria and Greenwich Book Center organize the “Old Paper for New Book”campaign in four Bulgarian towns:
· 10 September 2016, 10am-2pm, Haskovo;
· 11 September 2016, 10am-7pm, Sofia;
· 17 September 2016, 10am-2pm, Varna;
· 18 September 2016, 10am-2pm, Russe;
The initiative will run under the motto “Clean up and read up” and will target children of all ages and their parents and teachers. The main goal of the event is to foster love ofbooksand readingand a responsible attitude to the environment among children, to teach them to protect the environment and collect waste separately.
Even in 2016 the project will be implemented on a national scale and besides Sofia, it will take place in three more region centers in the country. In Haskovo, the event is scheduled on September 10, within the city celebration week. In Sofia, the initiative will take place on September 11, as part of the capital’s Culture Calendar. In Varna, “Old Paper for New Book” will be held on September 17 within the Funcity+ youth festival in support of Varna’s candidacy for European Youth Capital.The last event will take place in the city of Russe on September 17th. All activities will be implemented with the assistance of the respective municipalities and regional libraries.
The “Old Paperfor New Book”campaign is an event of important contribution to the cultural life of the municipalities and aims to foster cultural and environmental values among the youngest members of society. All of the activities during the campaign are socially oriented and related to enriching the knowledge, environmental awareness, and love for reading and books. Every child, accompanied by an adult, who brings at least 5 kg of old paper will receive a new children’s book of their choice and gifts from the event organizers and partners. Throughout the day, through various fun activities, the children will be learning about recycling – how to protect nature, how to collect waste separately, as well as how to upcycle and craft various objects from waste materials.
The funds raised from the collected paper in the four cities will go towards the publishing costs ofthe special “You Can Save the Planet” edition.
