More than 170 schoolchildren took part in the tenth school student badminton tournament Golden Shuttlecock for the Sofia Cup on 24 October at the Handball Hall of Vassil Levski National Sports Academy.
The competition was organized by the Bulgarian Badminton Federation and ECOPACK Bulgaria AD under the patronage of the Mayor of Sofia in support of the European Capital of Sports award. The tournament was officially opened by Prof. Pencho Geshev, Rector of NSA and Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Mr. Todor Burgudzhiev, Executive Director of ECOPACK Bulgaria AD, and Prof. Puzant Kassabian, President of the Bulgarian Badminton Federation. The opening ceremony was attended by Ms. Nevena Dimitrova, Chief Expert with Sofia Municipality Prevention, Sports and Tourism Directorate, and Dr. Volodya Zlatev, Executive Director of BBF.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary edition of the Golden Shuttlecock, Sofia Municipality officially awarded Prof. Puzant Kassabian for professional contribution to the development of sport in the city of Sofia.
Maria Zhivkova from Tchernorizets Hrabur School and Alexander Vassilev from G.S.Rakovski School won first places in the Grades 1-2 category.
Joana Yordanova from G.S.Rakovski School and Alexander Tsitselkov from Prof. John Atanassov School bested the girls’ and boys’ fields, respectively, in the Grades 3-4 category.
Kossara Andreeva from G.S.Rakovski School and Denis Hayrula from Sveti Pimen Zografski School took home the gold medals in the Grades 5-7 category.
The Sofia Municipality award for highest number of participants went to Chernorizets Hrabur School.
For yet another year, Devin AD sponsored the event and provided bottled water for all participants.
All of the winners took home medals and prizes provided by ECOPACK Bulgaria AD.
It is the hope of the organizers that this annual tournament helps promote among children an active lifestyle and responsible attitude to the environment.
