Three schools in Sofia – “Pentcho Slaveykov”, “Vasil Aprilov” and “Stoyan Zaimov” – were awarded for their participation in “The Recycling School. Teachers for Clean Environment”. They received certificates and sets of classroom wastebaskets for the separate collection of paper and plastic waste. In addition, all of the +100 teachers in the three schools who delivered lessons within the frames of the initiative were presented with gift sets including an agenda notebook, pen, marker set, and whiteboard eraser.
According to the teachers themselves, younger and older students alike took part in the lessons and extracurricular activities with enormous enthusiasm. And not just the students. Their parents got involved, as well. And that, ultimately, is the best confirmation that the initiative is reaching its goals. Aided by the educational materials provided by ECOPACK, the teachers teach specific knowledge about the various aspects of the process of recycling and its benefits and kindle the children’s interest in the environment and in a proactive, responsible attitude to it. In this way they turn them into ambassadors of the green idea who share their knowledge and enthusiasm at home, with their parents, and thus really help change popular attitudes to recycling and environmental protection.
When presenting the awards, Mariana Petkova, Public Relations and Communications Manager at ECOPACK Bulgaria, acquainted the teachers with the new online educational platform which is to be launched as part of the initiative and which will be made available to them in the coming months.
Within the current school year, following Sofia and Vratsa, the national initiative “The Recycling School. Teachers for Clean Environment”, conducted with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment and Water, will continue in other cities in Northwestern Bulgaria partnering with ECOPACK in terms of packaging waste recovery.
