ECOPACK and TETRA PAK launch new campaign for separate collection and recycling of beverage cartons

03.08.2015

An awareness-raising campaign for separate collection and recycling of beverage cartons started in eight Bulgarian municipalities. The campaign is organised by ECOPACK Bulgaria, the largest packaging recovery organisation in Bulgaria, and Tetra Pak, the world’s largest producer of this type of packaging. The partner municipalities are Vratsa, Dupnitsa, Kyustendil, Montana, Pernik, Botevgrad, Peshtera and Pazardzhik. Information on the stages of the campaign and interesting news, facts, pictures and videos are available in the Campaigns section of our website and on our Facebook page.

This campaign will raise awareness as to composite (multi-layered) packaging waste and in particular beverage cartons – juice, milk, tomato, wine, cream, etc. The input materials are 100% recyclable and can be re-used many times. There are numerous benefits of separate collection and they concern all of us. For example:

  • We save valuable natural resources by decreasing the consumption of energy and raw materials from 70% to 90%;
  • The recycling of 1 tonne of paper requires 60% less energy than the production of new material; we save about 13 trees and 31,780 litres of water, 4,100 KWh of electricity, 2.5 barrels of oil; 4 cu m of the landfill capacity.

The campaign will take place in two stages – awareness raising and a series of special events. The first stage started on 1 August and involves the dissemination of information leaflets and posters in the eight municipalities.

The second stage will take place during the weekends in September and October; at that time every municipality will host the unique ECO LABYRINTH. More information and the particular dates for each town will be announced soon.

Responsible attitude to nature shows an attitude to ourselves, our relatives and what we shall leave for the future generations.
